Effective October 12, 2026, Language Learning & Technology (LLT) is implementing new AI Use Disclosure Checklists for Authors and Reviewers to promote transparency and accountability in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) throughout the scholarly publication and peer-review process.
All new manuscript submissions must include a completed AI Use Disclosure Checklist for Authors, indicating whether and how AI tools were used in the preparation of the manuscript. Authors must provide details about any AI use, including uses not explicitly listed in the checklist. This information must also be disclosed in the manuscript's Methods section (or equivalent), in accordance with LLT's AI Policy for Submissions.
Reviewers are required to complete the AI Use Disclosure Checklist for Reviewers and include an AI use disclosure statement in their confidential comments to the editor in the submission system. LLT emphasizes that peer review is fundamentally a process of human scholarly judgment. Reviewers remain fully responsible for the accuracy, substance, and tone of their reviews, regardless of whether AI tools were used.
These new requirements reinforce LLT's commitment to transparency, research integrity, and responsible AI use in scholarly publishing. All disclosures will be considered on a case-by-case basis in accordance with the journal's AI policies.
We encourage all prospective authors and reviewers to familiarize themselves with the new checklists and LLT's AI policies before submitting manuscripts or peer-review reports.
